Owen Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on Sajid Javid’s comments that he would not be part of a government that cuts benefits for disabled people, said:
“If Sajid Javid doesn’t want to be part of a Tory government that cuts disability benefits, then he is in the wrong Tory Government.
“The truth is the Tories have targeted thirty billion pounds worth of cuts on disabled people since 2010.
“These latest cuts, hitting those who need help managing toilet needs and getting dressed, are beyond cruel.
“The Business Secretary and his Cabinet colleagues should look again at these cuts, see that disabled people have suffered enough on their watch and change course urgently.”
